I used to use SS when they were free. Since then I have only seen it in action a few times. I am obviously biased, but I will try to provide some useful information. SS and Courtport are very similar in some ways, but clearly different in a few areas. A full analysis and comparison would be needed to get the full picture (which I am not in a position to do).One thing I found bothersome while using SS is that they are OVER-inclusive. The Internet contains many, many sources of information. They seem to be trying put the entire internet in their link directory. Do you really want to look up a dog license in kalamazoo? I found I spent too much time looking through their links to get to the most important public records: Court case information, rules, and forms, Property/Recordings/Liens, Criminal, Business, and People Records.
Our portal currently contains approximately 10,500 links that are deemed to be very useful by professional researchers. We categorize them very carefully. I believe this browse approach is much more effective than a search approach, although you can keyword search our links as well. We come across databases regularly that we purposely do not include in our collection--we want to remain focused.
I guess it depends on your definition of "better coverage". Most likely we maintain more links to federal, state, county, and local court case information links than SS (or any other site), however they probably list more property links than we do.
Also, our primary focus is on our portal, while they charge premium prices for reselling data in a few different ways/packages. We are transparent with our links and do not attempt to hide the urls in any way.
Courtport probably also provides a much richer customizable user experience. Our users can add their own links, share links, set their start page, and subscribe to various email alerts. For our unlimited access customers we provide several access options for IP authentication, shared logins, and account administration controls.
The best way to answer your question is to compare for yourself. We offer a free 30 day trial. This should provide you with enough time to do research and compare us to SS head-to-head.
Like I say, these are my biased thoughts. I would love to see replies to this post from other researchers, or SS on this topic, since I am not a regular user.
