I think librarians enjoy AALL and other professional meetings in part because we get to speak "librarianese" and other librarians relate to what we are saying. While searching library blogs, I came across a glossary compiled by Rutgers librarians to help new librarians understand the lingo:Librarians speak a language peppered with technical terms, acronyms, references to people and institutions, and even ordinary English words which have acquired specialized meanings for the profession. This is a preliminary list to help you translate some of the jargon we may throw around. Don't worry -- in a few months, you'll be speaking like a native!
